Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Rural electrification is a critical component in the development of rural areas, as it directly impacts economic growth, quality of life, and social advancement. In Yauri Local Government Area (LGA) of Kebbi State, the push for rural electrification has gained momentum with the advent of digital media. Digital platforms like social media, websites, and mobile apps have become key tools in promoting and disseminating information about rural electrification projects. These platforms allow government agencies, NGOs, and community-based organizations to engage with residents, provide updates on electrification projects, and address concerns about energy access. This study aims to explore the role of digital media in advancing rural electrification projects in Yauri, focusing on how digital media influences public awareness, mobilization, and participation in these projects.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
In Yauri LGA, despite ongoing efforts to electrify rural communities, many residents are still unaware of government initiatives and available resources. Although digital media holds great promise in raising awareness and encouraging participation, there is little research on its effectiveness in advancing rural electrification projects. This study will investigate how digital media platforms are being used to support these projects and what impact they have on public awareness, project participation, and local engagement in Yauri.

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study is focused on the role of digital media in advancing rural electrification projects in Yauri LGA, Kebbi State. It does not include other regions or explore non-digital methods of promoting electrification.
1.8 Operational Definition of Terms
- Rural Electrification: The provision of electrical power to rural communities that do not have access to the national power grid.
- Digital Media: Online platforms such as social media, websites, and mobile apps used for communication and information dissemination.
